As HCMC is such a huge metropolis, one of the densest cities in the world, it has its cons. In the morning I set the goal to make a private phone call, therefore I needed privacy. Where can I be alone for a few minutes? Tell me if you have a solution!
HCMC egy nagy metropolisz, az egyik legsűrűbben lakott a világon, és ennek vannak hátrányai. Reggel egy személyes telefonhívást akartam elintézni, ezért egy kis magányra volt szükségem. Hol lehetek egyedül egy pár percre? Ha van tipped, mondd!
In the room: Conrad; in the hall: nervous receptionist; on the street: Vietnamese pedestrians and drivers, furthermore tourists; other streets: the same; the parks: packed with people. This is a great issue for me in this city. I don’t mind being among people, but sometimes I need some privacy, when nobody tries to ask boring questions and use me as an English teacher.
A szobában: Conrad; a hallban: ideges recepciós; az utcán: vietnami gyalogosok és motorosok, valamint turisták; a többi utcában: ugyanez; a parkokban: minden tele van emberrel. Ez egy tényleg nagy problémája a városnak. Nem bánom, ha emberek között kell lennem, de néha kell egy kis magány, amikor senki sem kérdezget unalmas kérdéseket és néz angoltanárnak.
The city bus system is actually pretty good in HCMC. The ticket is only 4000VND and the vehicles are kinda modern. But the culture of ‘getting on the bus’ is the same as in Hanoi: even if there are less people at the bus stop than free seats on the bus, Vietnamese run like cheetah chasing their lunch in the savanna; they push everybody who is in their way and step on them. People: calm down! You don’t run for your life, so don’t pretend doing that!
A városi buszok igazából egész jók HCMC-ben. A jegy csak 4000VND és a járművek végül is egész modernek. De a felszállás kultúrája ugyanolyan borzasztó, mint Hanoiban: még akkor is, ha sokkal kevesebb ember van a megállóban, mint amennyi szabad hely van a buszon, a vietnamiak úgy rohannak fel a buszra, mint ahogy egy gepárd száguld a vacsorájáért a szavannán; mindenkit lökdösnek, aki útban van és rálépnek. Emberek: nyugi! Nem az életedért futsz, úgyhogy ne is viselkedj úgy!

We went to Chinatown. Many Chinese live there and what we found were: Chinese medicine shops, a very undecorated mosque, and some pagodas, one of them was on two sides of the street! There was also a market for electronic goods in Conrad’s travel guide, but there’s nothing for tourists.
A kínai negyedbe mentünk. Sok kínai él ott, és a találtunk kínai orvosság boltokat, egy meglepően aluldíszített mecsetet, néhány pagodát, egy közülük két oldalán volt az útnak! Volt egy pár bolt elektronikai cikkeknek is Conrad útikalauzában, de ott semmi sincs turistáknak.

If you pay ten times the price of a beer in a luxury hotel’s top floor café, will you get something special? Nope. The top floor was not on a high building, and I asked the waitress to give us the table with the best view, and we got it. Not worth it. Don’t believe your travel guide, don’t trust this top floor café, unless you want to see a construction site, a street and the opera. Rather stay on the ground and enjoy the cheap beer in the backpacker quarter, and breathe in the atmosphere of the metropolis!
Ha a sör árának tízszeresét fizeted ki egy luxushotel tetőteraszán levő kávézóban, akkor kapsz valami különlegeset? Nem. A kávézó nem egy magas épület tetején volt, és bár a legjobb kilátást kértem a pincérnőtől, a látvány csapnivaló volt. Ne higgy az útikönyvednek, ha ezt ajánlja, nem éri meg! Kivétel ha egy építkezést, egy utcát és az operát szeretnéd látni Inkább maradj a földön és élvezd az olcsó sört a turista negyedben, és szívd magadba a pezsgő metropolisz hangulatát!
